Raw honey
Raw, unpasteurized, one barrel at a time
Our honey is raw and unpasteurized. We leave it on the hive until the bees have cured it, and we never heat it. By winter one barrel is open at a time, so your jar tastes like the weeks it was made in.
Available now

Three honeys, one farm
Wildflower honey
Our spring honey. It follows the early bloom, from dandelion through chokecherry, Oregon grape, and Saskatoon, with a little first-cut alfalfa. In a dry year we sometimes get a late wildflower too, when the bees fly farther for goldenrod and whatever else is out there.
Valley gold honey
Our late summer honey, made in July and August. Mostly alfalfa and sweet clover, and usually lighter in colour.
Fireweed honey
Not a honey many farms sell. In July we move hives to just over 4,000 feet in the Monashee foothills, into old clear cuts growing back in fireweed. Bears are a real problem up there, so every yard is strapped, fenced, and sometimes fenced again. Then we cross our fingers and walk away. It takes a lot of work, so it costs more. Fireweed honey rarely crystallizes. Sold in jars only, and some years there is more of it than others.
The honey is made from the end of May to the middle of August, then stored. Through the season there are three to choose between. When a variety runs out it is gone until the next summer.
The same hives give us raw beeswax and the wax for our candles.
Wild Antho honey and beeswax products are 100% natural. Due to the raw and seasonal nature of our harvest, slight variations in colour, moisture content, crystallization, and flavour are completely normal and to be expected.
How we make it
Cured on the hive, filtered by gravity
Nearly all of our hives sit on wild land or organic farms. Bees fly, so no honey can promise exactly where every flower was. We put our hives where the forage is clean, and we treat them only with organic treatments: formic acid and oxalic acid.
We leave the honey on the hive until the bees have cured it. Honey taken early is runnier. Ours has a lower moisture content, so it is thick.
We filter it by gravity, with no heat, so it stays raw. We do not filter it hard either. Fine bits stay in, pollen grains included, and sometimes a little foam rises to the top. That is how honey is.
Most of our honey has a smooth, creamy feel and does not taste sharp. The colour changes with the season, and we never know exactly what we will get. Emily talks about the honey business on the Farming in British Columbia podcast.

Questions
Common questions
Where can I buy Wild Antho honey?
Wild Antho honey is sold from the farm at 4174 Round Prairie Rd, a few minutes north of Armstrong, B.C. Shops in Armstrong, Enderby, Vernon, and Salmon Arm carry it, and Fresh Valley Farms and Nature Delivered sell it online and deliver. The where to buy page lists every one. Order direct and it is set aside for collection.
Do you ship honey?
No. Wild Antho honey, beeswax, and candles are pickup only at the farm. Queens are the only thing that goes in the post.
Can I bring my own container?
Yes. Leave any clean, dry container at the Wild Antho sign with your name and number on it. It is filled, weighed, and priced by what it holds, at $16 per kg, and you collect it when you are next going past.
What kinds of honey are there?
Wild Antho has three: wildflower, valley gold, and fireweed. In summer all three are usually on hand. By winter one barrel is open at a time, so the jar you get is whatever is on tap.
Is the honey raw?
Yes. Wild Antho honey is raw and unpasteurized. It is cured on the hive, filtered by gravity, and never heated. It is made between the end of May and mid-August and stored on the farm after that.
